Deputy Capital Governor Hassan Abdullah Al Madani chaired a meeting of the Health Cities Committee with officials from the governorate, where the steps to begin the Healthy City Project in the Capital Governorate were discussed. The process of implementing  World Health Organisation (WHO) approved standards for health cities, as well as following up on the tasks carried out by each concerned directorate was reviewed.

After Umm Al-Hassam and Manama obtained accreditation as healthy cities in a short period of time thanks to the cooperation and coordination between the various concerned authorities, which was commended by the WHO, the Deputy Capital Governor confirmed that the Health Cities Committee in the governorate has acquired sufficient experience in the mechanism of implementing the project. He praised all relevant authorities' keen interest in the pioneering civilized project, indicating its willingness to advance development and establish Bahrain as a regional and international leader.

The Deputy Capital Governor pointed out that the key to the Capital Governorate's success is that the projects and initiatives are compliant with the standards of the WHO, namely Green Capital, Manama Entrepreneurship Week, and the summer activities of the youth, in addition to the Capital Governorate's document for voluntary work. He highlighted that these programmes promote public health, empower youth in the capital and involvement of members of the capital’s community and environment.

The Capital Governorate launched last July the Healthy City Project programme in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the WHO after the successes achieved by the WHO's adoption of Um Al Hassam as a healthy city in 2018, followed by Manama in 2021 as the first healthy capital in the Middle East region.
