The Coordination Council of the Capital Governorate discussed the emergency plan that was ratified by the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning for the preparation for the upcoming rainy season. The Council reviewed the report that was presented by the representatives of Ministry, in which they covered the rainwater collection points in the Capital, reaching to 964 sites. The Council also reviewed the completed projects that the Ministry is working on to solve the problems in these sites in order to ensure that the rain does not gather there. The representatives of the Ministry of Works reviewed as well the tasks of all the parties who are concerned with the rainwater drainage at the Ministry and the coordination mechanism among them.

This took place during the chairmanship of His Excellency Sheikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Governor of the Capital Governorate, of the Ninth Meeting of the Coordination Council of the Capital Governorate for the year 2017, during its second term,   in the presence of representatives of the security authorities and the officials of the Governorate.  The agenda of the meeting included : the needs of Sitra and Salhia areas,  preparations of the Ministry of Works for the rainy season and the projects of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities in the capital.

Engineer Zeinab Mahdi, from the Directorate of Sewages at Ministry of Works discussed the emergency plan that has been ratified by the Ministry, including identifying the places of water collection. She confirmed that the periodical maintenance works are underway in addition to cleaning rainwater drainage networks to ensure the safety and smooth flow of water. She also said that  the  Ministry has identified the sites of rainwater disposal to the nearest water outlet.

“The manpower and equipment were identified and allocated optimally according to the available budgets, and tasks have been distributed between sections and departments concerned at the Ministry”. She said and added: “In addition, the Public Relations Directorate at the Ministry has laid down a community awareness plan regarding behaviors that need to be followed during the rainy seasons and the wrong attitude to avoid”.  It is worth noting that  a hotline service has been launched under number 80001810.
